Good Friday Sermon 2018:

The Day God Died :

Series: Easter
Jerry Vines
Romans 5:8

”Christ died for us.” Two thousand years ago, outside the city of Jerusalem, at a place called Calvary, a man named Jesus died on a cross. It was actually the day God died. The cross was in the heart of God from all eternity. In Revelation 13:8 the Bible says that the Lord Jesus was the lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Before the world was created, before time began, it was determined that the Lord Jesus would die on a cross for the sins of the whole world. When the Lord Jesus came to this earth He carried a cross in his heart as well. As a boy, the Lord Jesus said, ”Did you not know I must be about my Father’s business?” He’s talking about the business of dying for the sins of the world on the cross.

Throughout His ministry the Lord Jesus Christ lade references to the cross. On one occasion the Lord Jesus said this, ”My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.” The night before the cross, the Lord Jesus said, ”Father, the hour is come.” He was talking about the hour of the cross. He was talking about His death on the cross. It was the day God died.

If you really want to understand what Christianity is all about you have to go to the cross. If someone said to me, ”What is Christianity?” I have to explain the cross to them. In I Corinthians 1:18 the Bible says, ”The preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness, but to us who are saved, it is the power of God.”

I cannot explain to you what salvation is without taking you to the cross where Jesus died, where God died. At the cross we see humanity at its worst. With wicked hands they took Him and crucified Him. At the cross we see God at His best. This verse of Scriptures says that God commends His love toward us. This word, commend, is a beautiful picture of what happened at the cross. The word literally means to put together. God put it together at the cross. All of the face

Jesus Is the Crucified Son of God :

Series: Who Is Jesus?
Ken Trivette
John 12:34, 19:16-18
1. An Actual Death
2. An Awful Death
3. An Atoning Death
This past weeks issue of Time featured their annual list of the world’s 100 most influential people. The list was broken down into categories that consisted of leaders and revolutionaries, builders and titans, heroes and icons, scientist and thinkers, and artist and entertainers. Time referred to those on their list as men and woman whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world.
There is One that I believe tops all the lists of influential people. No one has affected the world as He, and after hundreds of years, He still exercises an influence that is greater all others put together, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ.
Someone has written:
Here is a man who was born in an obscure village, the child of a peasant woman. He grew up in another village. He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty. Then for three years He was itinerant preacher.
He never owned a home. He never wrote a book. He never held an office. He never had a family. He never went to college. He never put His foot inside a big city. He never traveled two hundred miles from the place He was born. He never did one of the things that usually accompany greatness. He had no credentials but Himself.
While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against Him. His friends ran away. One of them denied Him. He was turned over to His enemies. He went through the mockery of a trial. He was nailed upon a cross between two thieves. While He was dying, His executioners gambled for the only piece of property He had on earth–His coat. When He was dead, He was laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.
Nineteen long centuries have come and gone, and today He is the centerpiece of the human race and leader of the column of progress.
